Bio

Kevin Smith is an American director, producer, writer, and actor. He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy buddy film Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, and co-produced. Smith gave himself the role of Silent Bob, of stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob, characters who also appeared in Smith's later films.

Building on the first film’s success, he wrote and directed several other films that have crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon known as the "View Askewniverse". The films included Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), and Clerks III (2022). Smith would often work with the same cast throughout these films, including Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Mewes, Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson. Established stars like Matt Damon, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, and George Carlin, have also starred or guest starred in his Jersey-based films.

Some of his other films include Jersey Girl (2004) with Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler, Zack and Miri (2008) with Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, and the action-comedy Cop-Out (2010) with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Smith followed these up an array of horror films, including Red State (2011) and the comedy horror films Tusk (2014) and Yoga Hosers (2016).

Most recently, he created Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and its follow-up MotU: Revolution for Netflix.

As a podcaster, Smith cohosts several shows on his SModcast Podcast Network, including SModcast, Fatman Beyond, and the live show Hollywood Babble-On.

His next film, The 4:30 Movie, is a coming-of-age comedy set in 1986 and is currently in post-production.
